Idiotic "review". The files are the same because I shared them previously with Radio...

The radio comedy "The Navy Lark" ran for 18 years between 1959 and 1977 and followed the exploits of a group of incompetent navy personnel, onshore and afloat. For some inexplicable reason, in 1963 the BBC decided to change the format so that the crew instead ran a TV station. This ill-thought experiment lasted just one series and at the end of the series, the BBC perhaps realising their mistake, sent the cast back into the navy.

No idea where the file has gone to. Blame Archive, not me. File uploaded again.

Comedy based on a short story by Gogol. As the snow falls on Christmas Eve in the Ukrainian village of Dikanka, the local witch is in league with a devil to steal the moon and stars.  Meanwhile, the witch's son goes on a magical night flight to St Petersburg to borrow a pair of shoes from Catherine the Great.

Sounds fine to me when playing it on the Archive site.

Sir Oliver Lodge is a strange and forgotten figure from the Edwardian era: an Establishment scientist, the unacknowledged inventor of the wireless before Marconi, a dabbler in psychic phenomena, the friend of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Albert Einstein. He was also a tragic figure: destined to spend his life searching desperately for a way to communicate, using seances, with his son, Raymond, killed on the Western Front in 1915. Sir Oliver believed he had cracked the thin veil that separates two...

I've just tried both the original and this copy. Sounds fine to me.

Thank you for that quite useless comment.

Forget the Hollywood adaptations, this is a faithful dramatisation of the Buchan novel and, to my mind, far superior to the increasingly film adaptations of the same. Apologies that previously this was listed as featuring David Robb as Hannay. This is the less satisfactory (in my opinion) David Rintoul version.

Contrary to the review below, I have previously uploaded Series 2 ...

Comedian Sean Lock lives in Flat 76, Elderberry House, Maydew Estate, trying to keep the world at bay. The world, for some reason, does not want to play his game. Like much radio comedy, you either love this or think it rubbish. You decide which.

Sadly, some people do not understand irony. Maybe too British a trait?

Leslie Charteris wrote a number of novels about his suave action man Simon Templar, better known as "The Saint". In the 1960s, these were dramatised for TV, featuring a young actor called Roger Moore (what happened to him??) in the title role. In the 1990s, the BBC sadly stopped after dramatising just 3 of the novels.

Title duly amended! For those not aware, "Wisden" is the cricket bible.

It's the afternoon session at a rather slow test match at Lords. Then an armed man intrudes into the commentary box and tells everybody the test match commentary team is being held hostage. A rookie policewoman, a South African policeman and a gung ho armed officer are there to take control - or rather not take control in this gently amusing tale. For the uninitiated, a "test match" is a 5 day international cricket match. Play can be rather slow, so it is for the radio commentators to...

Please upload to IA.

Series 1 of Petrella seems to have "gone missing". If anybody has a copy, I would welcome it, please. Petrella is a post war, tango dancing detective (he's married to an Argentinian), who works in the dreary streets of South London, investigating murders in his own, ponderous way.

No sorry, I do not have them.

Another story, another Rumpole, this time a one off portrayal in a 90 minute play. Christmas Day in a chilly Norfolk village and a trip to the pantomime provide Horace Rumpole with the opportunity to solve a crime involving a duplicitous dame and to indulge in a little seasonal, charitable blackmail.

13 BBC dramatisations of some of the better known Holmes stories, dating from 1978. Barry Foster and David Buck make a reasonable job of Holmes & Watson respectively.
